Thank you for considering supporting Hope For Families. This page explains how donations are used, our commitment to financial transparency, and important information about making a gift.
1. How Donations Are Used
Every donation made to Hope For Families directly supports our charitable mission: building stronger families, empowered communities and brighter futures for African and ethnic-minority families across Scotland.
Funds are used across our core programmes, which include:
- Little Stars Initiative — STEM Club, fun outings and developmental activities for children aged 5–12.
- Adolescent Development Initiative — life skills, mentoring, creativity and employability training for young people aged 13–17.
- Community Mental Health & Wellbeing — Afro Dance Exercise, Cozy Corner social sessions and peer support.
- FirstPass Football Academy — weekly football training building teamwork, discipline and confidence.
- Food Bank & Café — weekly community meals for families and individuals facing food insecurity or isolation.
- Operational costs — a portion of donations may be used to cover essential running costs such as venue hire, insurance, administration and staff costs that enable all programmes to function.
Hope For Families does not pay trustees for their governance role. Operational staff costs are kept to a minimum and are disclosed in our annual accounts submitted to OSCR.
2. Gift Aid
If you are a UK taxpayer, please consider making your donation Gift Aid-eligible. Gift Aid allows us to reclaim 25p from HMRC for every £1 you donate at no extra cost to you. To be eligible, the amount of Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax you pay for the current tax year must be at least equal to the amount of Gift Aid all charities claim on your donations.
When you make a Gift Aid declaration, your personal details are shared with HMRC solely to process the claim. This is a legal requirement and is covered by our Privacy Policy.
3. Donation Processing
Online donations are processed through JustGiving, a regulated payment platform. We do not store your payment card details. JustGiving's own privacy policy governs how they handle your payment information.
4. Refund Policy
Donations to Hope For Families are voluntary gifts made in support of our charitable work. As such, we are generally unable to offer refunds once a donation has been made and allocated. If you believe a donation was made in error, please contact us at kelechioliora@gmail.comwithin 14 days and we will review your request.
5. Financial Accountability
As a registered Scottish charity, Hope For Families is regulated by the Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator (OSCR) under charity number SC053715. We are required to:
- Submit annual accounts and an annual return to OSCR.
- Operate in accordance with our governing document and charitable purposes.
- Use charitable funds only in the pursuit of our charitable objectives.
Our accounts are publicly available through the OSCR charity register atoscr.org.uk.
